| Description | I put the new version moth trap out to see what would visit. In the morning were a large hawk moth that didn't hang around once I started trying to get him to pose, a couple of ermine moths and a couple of footman moths. This is one of the footman who was happy to walk onto a piece of card offered up to him, and then positioned in front of the camera. I shot several levels of magnification before trying the microscope objective on the top of his ruff. This is about 20x magnification of a live and unharmed subject. I think he was very settled and sleepy, and not threatened. I never thought I'd be able to do this with a live subject. Note, the stack is not perfect, there are gaps in there that mean pixel peeking shows some blurry spots, but they don't detract from the beauty of the scales. Another note, the blue is an artefact I think, the scales are grey with a hint of blue, but not this saturated, that said the colours work here so I made an artistic choice not to fix them. |
